A girl died outside my hostel today.
She was walking across the road to post a letter from her grandmother's house. When she walked back to the house, a bus was stopping at the bus stop and it obscured her view of this van coming down the road. Stepped right into the path of the van and WHAM!!
SHe died instantly. Her grandmother and mother came screaming out of the house. My friend was one of the witnesses and he said the grandmother was just screaming and banging on the ground beside her granddaughter's body. He said he could see her shoes. Apparently it flew off when she was hit by the van so hard.
She was an only child too.
We drove pass the bus stop today and we saw this whole bunch of students around that bus stop. They were putting flowers there and everything to remember their friend who had gone all too soon. ( I didn't dare to take any pictures, that would have been a tad untactful) She was only 17.
Amazing, isn't it? How life can change in just a blink of an eye?
Her day probably started normally. All she wanted to do was to post that letter. Had she stepped out just a couple of minutes later, or just a couple of minutes earlier, and she would have missed the van entirely. She would have made it home safely, she would have had a lovely evening with her mother and grandmother, then go home to a warm bed and get ready for another day of school the next day.
But she didn't. And now a grandmother has lost a beloved granddaughter, a mother has lost an only daughter, her friends have lost a classmate.
She was too young too go like this.
Makes me sad to think about it.

Funny

Was surfing around the internet ( Google images, to be specific- shows just what kind of a life i have.... none at all...) when i found these pictures. These are actually captions on t-shirts but they were so funny and cute I couldnt resist saving them, and sharing them.

For desperate men who want to make it clear to the world what it is men really want.....
For alcoholics who spend too many a night drowning themselves in alcohol in pubs
For bachelors who are about to get themselves caught in the unofficial prison known as marriage
My favourite: Must not be read by people with low self-esteem.... wakakakakaka XD

What If?

How would you like to just one day, take a ride with me?
We'll jump in the car with nothing but the clothes on our backs
And we'll just drive anywhere we want to,
Anywhere the road takes us, any direction the wind blows.

We could drive all the way up the coast,
Feel the salty, sea breeze loosen our hair,
Feel the warmth of the morning sun on our faces,
Hear the soothing crashes of the waves against the shore
We could take a drive down one of those windy lanes that never seem to go nowhere
Just drive past green, green pastures and vast, rolling hills
Past horses drinking from streams, tails swishing contentedly
Past ancient buildings that could have been castles, homes to warlords and princesses

We could try battling with the city traffic, all fighting to survive in cruel civilization
Hear the horns and the beeps and the curses of the impatient and the rude
See the colours of the grafitti on walls and the people bustling along the street
No one has time for anyone else, as they go along their way
Strangely isolated and alone in a place filled with people

What if, you and I, just take a drive on a sunny, clear day
And never came back?
We could travel far away, away from all the fear, hate, anger
Away from all the worries, the stress, the deadlines
Away from all familarities, away from all comfort zones
And just start anew, start afresh, start over

What if, you and I, just spend the rest of our lives together?
Just the two of us, holding hands, laughing together for the rest of our lives.
Just the two of us, forever and ever
Just the two of us, till the end of time.
What if I offered you all of this?
And I gave you my hand?
Would you take it?
Would you come with me?

The Dark Knight

We wanted to go to the beach today. But the weather forecast said it was going to rain today and it would be vry cold.

Well, we went to watch The Dark Knight instead, the second installment of the 'Batman' movies by director Christopher Nolan. When we came out of the theatre, we saw this looooooooong line that extended all the way near to the entrance. Apparently the next session was sold out... it was amazing, sorta like when we went to watch Harry Potter. MAybe it was because everyone wanted to see the late Heath Ledger's last completed role. After all, he was one of Australia's own and one of the best. So here are a few reasons why you absolutely HAVE to catch this flick too....
1. Heath Ledger ( pictured here in a scene from the movie as The Joker)- The late Heath Ledger is absolutely AMAZING in this role as The Joker. A role critics say will go down in history as on of the best role potrayed by him. He brought the psychotic madness of the Joker to a whole new level. I have to say, during the movie, I was genuinely terrified of him. His laugh, is face, his voice, and this flicking thing he kept doing with his tongue... Scary, completely creeped me out. Yet he was likable as a villian, I didn't hate him, I laughed at him a lot too... So, I have to say, He was just fantastic.
2. Of course, the ever-so-delicious Christian Bale is another reason. He is, to me, the best Batman ever. Broody, dark and handsome. And Michael Caine is just the best Alfred too. :) Aaron Eckhart plays Harvey Dent in the movie and we see how Two-Face became Two-Face. He was pretty good as well.
3. The film itself was good as well. Great soundtrack, great directing, beautiful cinematography. Effects, as expected were stunning and the story was good. Always keeping us at the edge of our seats, never boring. I suppose the only thing about this film was that it was probably a bit too long, and a bit over-plotted. There were so many things happening, sometimes even happning at the same time, to the point where I was pretty confused at certain parts of the movie ( but that could be aided by the fact that the row of girls sitting behind me wouldnt shut up )

All in all, best Batman movie I have ever seen. Totally worth watching it in theatres. Mind Blowing. You'll see for yourself when you watch it :)

Crash- Moving at the speed of life, we are bound to collide into each other.

It's the sense of touch.
I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel somthing.

I've just finished watching 'Crash'.

It was one of the most controversial wins at the 2006 Oscars ( Not sure about the year)

I can now see why. This is such a powerful film, dealing with racism and how people from all different kinds of background and races, religions, cultures interconnected. Because despite all our differences, we are still what we are, people. Just people who are the same on the inside, who influence people and are influenced by others. Every action is linked to another, just like every person is connected to another.

A Negro, upper-class couple, driving a big car, living in a classy house. They get stopped by a racist policeman, who acts lewdly towards the wife just because she's black.

A racist policeman with a sick father and a new partner who wants to switch partners after seeing how his partner treated a black couple.

A high profile, upper class, suburban white couple gets carjacked by 2 negro gangsters. Wife becomes paranoid and wants to change locks as soon as her Mexican locksmith leaves because she doesnt trust Mexicans.

2 Negro gangsters, carjacking for a living. They only carjack white people, but one day, by accident, end up carjacking a black man. The same black man whose wife was just molested by a racist policeman the night before.

A Mexican locksmith goes home after a long day at work. He has just heard one of his clients talk about him like he is nothing more than a gangbanger, just because he is Mexican. He goes home to his daughter, but soon is called out again to work.

A Persian man, constantly mistaken for being Iraqi, buys a gun with his daughter. The lock on the door of his store is broken, he has called for a locksmith to fix it. A mexican guy comes around to fix it. But tells the Persian storekeeper that the problem is with the door, not the lock, and that he cant fix it. The Persian storekeeper is angry, accusing the Mexican locksmith of cheating him. The locksmith gets angry, throws the bill and receipt into the bin and walks out.

An Asian man is hit and dragged by a car driven by 2 negroes who has just carjacked it.

There is an accident, a woman is caught in the car which is about to explode. A policeman is on the job, he rushes in to save her, and then realizes that he knows this woman. Has only just met her the night before.

I can't even begin to explain the complexities and twist and turns of this movie. There are just too many and I am simply amazed at how the screenwriters managed to weave so many different lives and stories into one big one and somehow still manage to make it all connect.

Its a special movie, intriguing and leaves a mark on anyone who watches it. Reminds us all that we are all the same.

Watch it. And let me know what you think. :)

2nd Climb in Morialta Park

Ivy and I had a day off yesterday (finally!!!) We were planning to go to the gym or something, you know, to wake up early and make full use of our day off by being productive. we planned to wake up at 9 for brekky and then plan our day.... the main word here being PLANNED. We planned. So naturally, we didn't wake up as originally PLANNED. We woke up much much later... I'm not gonna say how much later as my mom will probably be reading this.. but i can justify myself by saying that I had had a late night finishing up my homework... XD

Well, we decided to go to Morialta Park again..
The last time we were there was last year, April/May. There are 3 waterfalls in Morialta Park, and it takes a few hours of climbing uphill and downhill to get there. Last time we were there, we only managed to get to the 2nd falls. This time we decided, we HAVE to get to the 3rd one cause we live right next to the park ( I meant that literally, its right across the road, i can see it as soon as i step out of my room) and we'd then be able to tell people that we HAVE climbed to the 3rd falls..
So we went.
We were just starting, and we saw this long stretch of road, we nearly turned back home, we were so lazy.. but we persevered haha..

The view there is gorgeous. We can see the city. At this point, we weren't even at the First Falls yet, mind you.
Well, you can imagine our relief when we saw this sign. We'd been wandering pretty aimlessly up and up and up and we had this nagging fear that we might end up lost in the vast park, cause its pretty wild in there... Thank goodness, we saw this sign and figured we should be on the right track..

Turns out we missed the First Falls entirely.. I dont know how that happened...
But we ended up in the Second Falls instead....
As you can see from this pic, Second Falls is rather disappointing.. Not so much a waterfall as it is a stream of water trickling over a couple of rocks....

We kept seeing these super scary trees around. They look like some sorta 'pontianaks' from those Malay Movies... Ivy nearly walked straight into one of 'em and she screamed bloody murder, nearly made me jump right outta my skin and into the Second Falls.

Ivy's phone rang on our way to the Third Falls and we were like, "Mmmm, good connection here..."
And then of course, I got a little bored..... started taking self-potraits....

So we saw this sign that says 'Third Falls- 390metres"

Now we had no idea at all just how far 390metres was. So we walked a little bit till we saw this. We were rather disappointed, we expected Third Falls to look more like a waterfall.... but we took pictures anyway, and continued on...
Disappointment....
Then we saw this. And we thought, hey maybe THIS is the Third Falls... still rather disappointing but we took pics anyway, just in case this WAS the Third Falls....

We were still walking when suddenly, we saw what looked like a waterfall up the track....

We were so excited we'd finally managed to get to the Third Falls!!!!!!

And VOILA!!!!

Third Falls!!!! In all its glory... We decided this HAD to be the Third Falls after so many false alarms... I mean, look at it, could it look less like a waterfall???

And just to prove I really was there and didnt just upload some random picture from the Internet.......
We only stayed about 5 minutes up there... then we made our way down again... Seriously, what can you do at a waterfall??? If this were Malaysia we'd jump in for a swim or something but this is Australia and its winter and we were quite high up... so you can imagine we were rather anxious to get back down to warmer temperatures..

Oh well, at least now we can tell people that we've been to the Third Falls. Haha.

Christina's 21st Birthday

It was Christina's birthday last week. Her 21st to be exact. Her ex-landlady ( or her Tau Keh Neo as Pearl usually calls her) baked her a cake... And we were all more than happy to share and help her finish it... XD
We coudnt decide where to go for her birthday dinner. well, not us, but more Chrisitina. It took her AGES to decide where to go. Casino ( too expensive), Cafe Primo ( we'd been there too many times) We finally decided to go to this chinese buffet steamboat restaurant. You just pay a certain amount of money and voila! You get all you want. they have this pot of boiling soup in the middle of the table and you can just take as much stuff as you want to throw into the soup and cook... It was pretty cool... we had great fun... :)
Pearl and I.... Or the twins/sisters according to the australians... just because we have similar hairstyles! Blah.. Ang mohs...
Food cooked in steamboat+Food halfway to my mouth= Me happy
Had to take a picture with the birthday girl... Turning 21 is a huuuge thing!
Ivy said that she didn't have a cake for her 21st, so Mc went and bought her a Passionfruit cheesecake from Sushi Train and stuck the thrice recycled 21 candle on it to make up for her cakeless 21st birthday hahaha... See the deliriously happy look on Ivy's face? and me? I'm just smiling for the camera so that i'll be able to have a mouthful of that cake hahaha..
We even had a bit of time to pose!
Ivy= Cake thrower
Pearl=Poor victim trying to duck from cake bomb
Me=Perasan girl trying to eat the cake bomb from ivy's spoon
Mc= Casual passerby who happens to be in the picture and also seems to find the wall behind very interesting.
Group photo! Jonathan's the one taking the picure. Just mentioning him cause he isn't in the picture.

all in all it was a pretty fun night.... This birthday was definitely better than her birthday last year.. Right, Christina?

Pizza-ing at Cindy's

Apparently we have too much time on our hands and too little things to do. Apparently we do not think we are fat enough yet and that we need to gain more fat and that our arteries need to bo clogged up with cholesterol more.
Because we decided to order 4 large pizzas and some other side orders that day.
And the reason why I'm blogging about this seemingly insignificant event is because I STILL have too much time on my hands........... The pizza was good, FYI

MC was soooo tired from her 3 hours sleep the night before she fell asleep...

I couldn't resist.... :)
